On 5 March, Leaders Club members joined a high-impact 60-minute Core Skills session on Personal Brand, delivered by Sarah Cartwright of Management Futures. The session formed part of our Core Skills series, designed to help members strengthen the leadership capabilities that drive influence, clarity and career progression.

Why Personal Brand Matters

While “personal brand” is often associated with social media presence or polished public personas, Sarah reframed it as something far deeper: your reputation, lived daily through your actions, behaviours and presence.

Drawing on years of global coaching experience, Sarah emphasizes helping leaders develop the confidence, authenticity and clarity needed to consistently perform as the best version of themselves. Her background – as a former actor turned executive coach – gives her a distinctive, experiential approach rooted in practice, feedback, and real-world communication skills.

Key Takeaways from the Session

  1. Your Brand Already Exists-So Take Ownership

Sarah encouraged members to recognise that everyone already has a personal brand, whether intentional or not. The power comes in shaping it consciously:

  • What do people associate with you?
  • What impact do you want to leave in every interaction?
  • How do your behaviours align with the leader you intend to be
  1. Authenticity Is Your Greatest Asset

With her coaching grounded in authenticity and presence, Sarah reminded members that personal brand isn’t about creating a performance – it’s about showing up as your most honest, consistent self. Leaders who align values, behaviour, and communication build trust faster and influence more effectively.

  1. Presence and Impact Are Learned Skills

Sarah’s work focuses heavily on helping leaders develop:

  • Impact and presence
  • Influencing skills
  • Confidence in communication

These are not fixed traits; they are trainable skills that grow through deliberate practice, feedback, and self-reflection. Her coaching approach centres on real-life scenarios, rehearsal, and actionable improvement.

  1. Feedback Is a Gift-Use It to Shape Your Brand

The session encouraged members to seek honest feedback from trusted peers and mentors. Understanding how others perceive you gives you the insights required to refine how you communicate, collaborate, and lead.

  1. Consistency Builds Credibility

A personal brand is reinforced not through grand gestures but through everyday behaviours. Sarah highlighted that consistency – across meetings, interactions, decisions, and relationships – is what cements your brand in the minds of others.
