Ways to Connect
Connecting with someone in a similar role, can act as a great benchmarking exercise, to learn how they’re approaching the role, and how the role differs from organization to organization. They may also be working on similar, or complementary projects, which may help you solve a problem, save you time, or provide a new perspective.
Connecting with someone in a different role is a great opportunity to learn how other roles and departments operate across the industry, rounding your industry knowledge. It may also help inform how you might approach your own role differently, through better understanding of how positions can align, and inform one another.
Connecting with someone with the same interest provides the chance to inspire new ideas, perspectives and challenge your own thinking. It can also help inform your own approach, or organizations approach to new initiatives or projects. Equally, you may just want to connect with someone with a similar personal passion.

How to Make the Most of Peer Connections
Firstly, agree the best way to connect, whether that be in-person for coffee, a meeting at one of your offices, or a virtual call during the week.
To help you make the most of your meeting, share with the person ahead of time what you’d like to discuss, or learn and follow these simple principles:
Be Supportive – Where relevant provide advice based on own experiences to develop learning
Listen Well – Take time to fully understand what someone is saying, and clarify ideas
Be Curious – Explore ideas and new perspectives being shared
Commit – Prioritize the time in your diary and respect other people’s time
